GIANT Pumpkin Weigh-in

Keeping its rightful place at the heart of the Virginia Pumpkin Festival is the THE GIANT PUMPKIN COMPETITION

International Entries from Germany, Italy, Belgium, UK & Austria as well as many Irish Entries.

With a prize fund of €6,000  Pumpkin growers from Ireland, England and Europe are expected in Virginia to showcase their prized pumpkins.   

The competition   is run under the auspices of the European Giant Vegetable Association.

Under the watchful eye of Donal McEvoy all the pumpkins will be weighed and measured and the winners declared

Last year the Largest  international Pumpkin was awarded to Andrew Baggs from England   with his winning pumpkin   a colossal 1,320 lbs.

The winner of the largest Irish Pumpkin and Pergola Cup was Michael Byrne from Co. Louth.  His Pumpkin weighed in at  a very respectable 895lbs.

Another notable winner was  Therese McSeain  from Cherrybank Farm in the heart of Cornafean. She won the Howard Dill Trophy for the best coloured pumpkin.

Although the Pumpkins do not make it back to their homeland, their extremely valuable seeds are extracted from the pumpkins and are returned home.
