Virginia Golf Club - April 1st
The final day of the Chestnut Tree sponsored Spring League took place on Sunday March 25th and the result could not have been closer. With 2 teams starting level at the top of standings it was always going to be a tight affair and so it ended up. Both teams finished the day as joint winners so after 7 rounds only countback could separate them. Eventually Ger McKenna's team were declared the winners, Vivian Connell's troops having to settle for 2nd place.
The winning team was made up of Ger McKenna, Gary Corcoran, Pat Kelly, John Mulvaney, Joseph Nolan, Dave Reilly, Tomas Lynch, Michael O'Rourke, John O'Dwyer and Tony Gregory. The individual winner on the day was Gary Corcoran with 43 pts, firmly slamming the door on his closest challengers and securing the golfer of the league. The presentation was held in the Chestnut tree and a big thanks to Mark and Eugene for their continues support of the club, very much appreciated. All winners for the year to date were presented, thanks to all for attending.
Sunday last, April 1st was the turn of the captains to strut their stuff with the annual Captains drive-in and traditional mixed scramble. Well done to both captains Michael Keating and Elizabeth Murphy on successfully negotiating the 1st major obstacle of the year. Nearly 90 people competed in the scramble and as usual lots of fun was had and was continued on to the Mill Bar for refreshments, thanks to Sean and his staff for the hospitality and support. Further congratulations are due to Elizabeth as she is the latest winner of the 50:50 draw, €75 the pot this time around.
Next Sunday is the return to singles stableford competition, the draw is posted on the noticeboard
