Mens Results

The Halloween weekend brought out all sorts of ghouls, ghosts and goblins and the golf club was no different, by the heads on some of the members emerging from Sundays fog!

This was the weekend where annual bragging rights were up for grabs and townland could face off against townland and in the end declare, we are the winners of the 2015 Towns Cup. There are those who may say that there was some loose geographic boundries on the teams akin to good old gerrymandering, but nonetheless a team rose to the top despite having the PRO on it. So saying that they were not deserving winners on this point alone would be a discourtesy.

That team was the team of Munterconnaught, comprising of Ollie Dwyer (Capt.), the Peter(s) Gill, Tom Kelly, James O'Brien, Ray Foley, Declan Smith and Peter Foran. What a team of legends, well done lads.

Overall winner went to Patrick Murphy, well done Patrick but this weekend, theres no "I" in team!

Many thanks as always to sponsor on the day, the Ramor Inn.

Our "International" Update: As reported last week Stephen Smith our Golfer of the Year last year, qualified to be on the Irish team playing at the Belfry in England las week. Not only did the Irish team bring home the bacon in horrendous weather, Stephen himself came 6th overall. A massive achievement for Stephen and a great representative for Virginia Golf Club.

Seniors Results/Wrap Up

The season came to an end on Wednesday last with a very enjoyable 9 Hole Shamble followed by lunch and presentation of prizes in the Riverfront Hotel.

Results- Ladies 1 Eva Williams 2 Margaret Bowles 3 Mary Hopkins.

Gents-1 Tom Lynch 2 Canice Hogan 3 Alec Mc Auley.

Over 100 members have availed of our weekly Tuesday Scramble and although the season started slowly numbers increased over the summer. As a result we extended play to the end of October. The main advantage of these outings is that it brings together members of all abilities in a relaxed enjoyable setting with only a slight emphasis on winning.

We hope to start up again in May next year and look forward to many new members joining us as they pass the 55 threshold. We also wait to see if the form of Frank Fahy continues into 2016, no pressure Frank.
