Captains Day Mr. Peter Kermath Results

Well last weekend we saw the great and good of Virginia Golf Club come out to participate in the second round of our Captain (Mr. Peter Kermaths) prize. Some came with anticipation, some with hope, some because they literally have nothing better to do on a Sunday morning, all of whom however arrived wishing our ever popular Captain the very best in this his big day and the summit of his year as club captain. The early morning men were on the majority not expecting to rattle the leaders but as we know in golf stranger things can happen, and the one thing that everyone agreed on was that the weather was magnificent and fitting for the day that was in it. The Captain welcomed everyone as they were dispatched to do battle, and his fair positioning of the flags and his thoughtful movement of the tee markers meant for most it was not the usual automatic club choices they had come to expect, thinking was the order of the day.

As the leaders teed up in the afternoon the tension was tangible and battle commenced. Though the leaders ebbed and flowed their way aroung the score board, one man not only rolled in the putts but also rolled back the years to relive Cavans GAA heyday and again bring home the silverware. That man was Tom Lynch, former Cavan GAA great but most importantly Virginia Golf club stalwart, holder of its highest ranks and a very popular member and winner. The men who came behind Tom all played with determination and valour but as we know there can be only one winner, and for the rest, there is always next year. Congratulations Tom.

Special word of thanks to everyone that helped with the organisation, the ladies who supplied fantastic food afterwards (the only reason the P.R.O. showed up again), the course convenor and staff for a course in amazing shape given the previous weeks weather and of course to the Captain himself who has given himself completely to the club this year. Well done everyone.

Seniors Golf News

Due to the midweek weather the usual competition was cancelled, allowing the Seniors to concentrate on finishing very high up the prizes of the Captains Day. Mental note for next year, if its raining the Wednesday before Captains day put the money on the grey horse on the Sunday.
